For 2008, Oaklandish will be giving away a total of $30,000 to winners of the
Oakland Innovators Award and the Arts-In-Action grant.
Oakland Innovators Award
Oakland has historically been a hotbed of renegade activity, where boundaries
are redefined and trends are created rather than followed. To help encourage
the continuation of this "trailblazers' legacy,"
Oaklandish has created the Oakland Innovators Award, a fund that offers annual
grants to organizations and individuals who are doing pioneering work in our
community. This award is meant to offer recognition and financial support to
local programs that exemplify the values of innovation and progress in all
areas of civic life, including arts, education, technology, and business. Local innovators are invited to apply for a grant of up to $5,000. Deadline
extended to December 8, 2008. Application and details at: www.oaklandish.org/COMMUNITY/community.html
Local Arts-In-Action Grant
Oaklandish began as a covert public art campaign designed to bring a sense of
history and culture to the underutilized public spaces of this city. Eight
years later they continue that legacy by encouraging other local artists to
create their own Oakland-centric works in the public realm. Local artists are invited to apply for a grant of up to $5,000. With the
Arts-in-Action Grant, Oaklandish aims to provoke public discourse and inspire
creative activity throughout our urban landscape. Deadline extended to December
8, 2008. Application and details at: www.oaklandish.org/COMMUNITY/community.html

New creative works and archival projects will be considered. Deep Oakland is
especially interested in work that examines the social, cultural, economic,
historical and political conditions into and out of which Oakland residents
live, relate and make (art, text, family, video, buildings, clothing, etc.), as
well as collaborative and multi-disciplinary projects.
Those interested are encouraged to visit www.deepoakland.org. Proposals should include a short description of the project, budget and material
needs if any, and a work sample. Email proposals to deep.oakland@gmail.com. Consideration of proposals will begin on November 1 and will continue until
funds run out!
Rock Paper Scissors Collective is looking for artists, teachers, and community
organizations to partner with for the Community Collaborations program in the
2009/2010 fiscal year.
Community Collaborations is RPS's program linking emerging and established
artists with non-arts and arts community organizations in order to bring
accessible and relevant arts education to the diverse communities of Oakland.
In addition to creating educational workshops, these partnerships will each
culminate in an exhibition at Rock Paper Scissors Collective highlighting both
participants' art work and the mission of the community organization.
The Oakland Artisan Marketplace is the City's premier arts and crafts vending
program, providing artisans with an opportunity to sell their arts and crafts
year-round in Oakland.
